Well, I am very new to the game so I spent a lot of time in the game asking questions to people. After getting invited to a few guilds, booted from one for unknown reasons which is now a dead guild after one week of being active, I decided to start my own guild. After two months we are level three and about to be level four, climbing the ranks on our server to 16th place and still ricing. My guild name, Destiny and I am Desime, Brilliant Diamond. I am gonna share with you my experiences as a guild leader and what I learn, and how come I am still the guild's one and only leader. On our server guild leaders come and go, getting passed around. But not Destiny, I been the leader since I created it which I believe is the most important quality in running a guild, dedication.

First of all, the basics to running a guild is to first get one! So you begin by reaching level 30 and going to the the Guild Administrator in Stone City.  You will get three options, Guild, Apply for Guild Demense, and Apply for Guild Demesne by Special Item. The first option is what you want. You must have 50g to create the guild. Once you do, you choose the name of the guild and you have created your guild. Remember to choose your guild's name wisely, once you choose the name then it is permanent. That name will be stuck with you forever unless you want to start over and it is a lot of work leveling a guild so you don't want to do that.

The next step is to get a Guild Demesne. This requires 200g! Yes, 200g! This might seem like a lot but it means your guild will have their own special haven to rest and get away from everyone else. You get into your guild demesne by seeing the Janitor of the Guild Demesne. My first time in a Guild Demesne was in Destiny's Guild Demesne and I was impressed of how much space you get as a guild. It was remarkable. To get 200g, I sold every blue identify, emerald, ruby, and other drop I got my hands on. I was very limited in armor because of this but it is well worth it if you are truly serious about running a guild.

Once you have a Guild Demesne, you now need people and need to start upgrading it. Your limit is 40 people to your guild but that will grow as you level. Getting people won't be easy in the beginning, most people don't want to start out in a guild that is brand new. I had three close friends of mine playing who helped me, only one continues to play regularly now but the other two still log in from time to time to play. So now is the best time to get into the people in a guild. Why not before the Guild Demesne, because how do people know you are serious as a Guild Leader if you are not willing to contribute your time and gold into creating the Guild Demesne? Now that you have a Guild Demesne, you can actively start recruiting and trying to find the good people who will be long lasting members.

You have many ways you can manage a guild, and you do so using the tools Talisman Online gives you when you press the G key. You can see everyone who is in the guild, their level, location, class, and their contribution value. Contribution Value I will go into later but the other things you know well. This is where you as the leader can change the position of players between freshmen, member, Officer, and Presbyter. Also the box at the top right is where you can put information for your guild to read when they log in, it is like a bulletin board for quick information. I try to use it to keep members updater with events and guild stuff like how close we are to reaching the next level or things that I feel is important for them. There is a box that allows you to be checked that says show offline members, this way you can choose to see everyone in the guild or just people online. I find this handy for a few things like the tree cerimony (I will go into that later) or checking to see who has been active and who hasn't been. If you click on someone and then click "Manage", you can see more detailed information about someone. The two I need to mention are Title and Branch.

How to create and manage a Guild!

Title is a name you can give each person, like a nickname. It can be anything you like as long as you don't put in too many characters. In the pictures you will notice my Title is Moon Goddess. I tend to let my members choose their nicknames unless they ask me to choose for them or they don't have one after a while of being in the guild I may come up with one based on their personality.

Now branch is an interesting feature that I knew nothing about until one of my Presbyters used it. You can create 3 seperate divisions of the guild which each officer would be in charge of. Presbyters and Leaders can not be in a branch at all and they will remain at the top of the guild list, Officers on the other hand will be at the top of each branch. You can name your branches anything you like, I choose to kept the names of what my Presbyter created (Damagers, Tankers, and Healers) because it allowed me to see who was on from each class without searching though a long list of names. This list gets large fast (Level 3 has a limit of 70 members in the Guild) so you can imagine how greatful I was when I saw this feature! The position well not change to the branch and then the Level within the guild (Level being freshman, member or officer). It will look like this - Healer-Member or Healer-Officer.

Now let me quickly mention what the different

Freshmen  - This title means new. A freshman is high school is new to the school!

Member - This title means you been around a while. I make people a member once they start doing Guild Quests (will get into GQ later).

Officer - This title means you have the right to Add or Remove people from the guild. You have special priviledges that members and freshman do not. (Max 3)

Presbyter - This title has all the priviledges of an officer and  you can manage the guild warehouse and Guild Information Board! (Max 2)

Leader - (YOU) Which means you are in charge of all that happens in the Guild, including your members to other guilds. (Max 1)

Now that you have established the different commands at your disposal, I will touch on the last buttons in the G window. Guild War and Alliance. Alliance means you are a friend or brother/sister guild to the guilds on the list. You can add and subtract anyone you choose. Guild War is information pertaining to guild wars. On our server, only 2 guilds have participated in guild wars as they are level 10. My guild hasn't been ready to do guild wars at level 3 as out focus is still on strengthen the guild and helping each other progress through the quests and level up. All battles are recorded here and the people who have made kills for their guilds too. This information will always be there so be careful about challenging a lot, you don't want to be 0 - 50 or else no one will have faith in your guild. Best to avoid that until you are truly ready but you can at least use it to check out the competition!

With that said, lets get on to the Guild Demesne!

The only thing in your Guild Demesne when you first create a Guild Demesne is your Ancient Vessel of Nature. This is your Guild Warehouse! The first thing any member of your guild should do and you yourself should do is get a Guild Token. They are free but what they do it priceless, you can teleport here to your demesne once every 10 minutes. They can be used as many times as you like, their only limits is a 10 minute cool down time! You can teleport from within a senario! I had to do that a few times when I forgot the Guild Quest like I did today before writing this guide! When you first right click your Vessel you will see your guild's prosperity which never goes down, it is what determines what you can unlock for your guild and how you rank against other guilds on the server. The list of things below you can click are

Contribution Value - I feel is COMPLETELY useless. You give up 1 gold for 30 Contribution Points! Gold is precious, don't waste it on 30 little points.

Build Contruction - This is where you can choose what you want to build for the guild. Once you build an item though, it won't be in this list anymore and you have to check with the item itself to upgrade it more. More on that shortly.

Guild Warehouse - This is where you can put items in and gold, exactly like your personal warehouse only this one is for the guild. Once you upgrade your vessel to level 5 you will have 2 pages worth of storage!

Obtain Guild Token - The most important item you can get from this vessel! Get one ASAP! Always remind your members to get one too if they are new and don't have one yet!

How to create and manage a Guild!

Now that you are sitting in your Demense and have this nice vessel, you need to build things! Lets go into the different things you can build!

Ancient Tree of Life - This tree determines the level of your guild. Level 0 means you don't have one, and you won't be able to reach level 2 unless you get this tree to level 2. Building this takes 76 hours or exactly 3 days so this is something you can't wait on!

The Statue of Sword - This determines what quests you have available to help your guild level. Each time you upgrade this you will get a new quest. My guild is level 3 so we only have Rattan Cave, Snake Cave, and Mercy Temple. If you grow this ahead of your Ancient Tree, you will not get the new quest until your Ancient Tree is finished upgrading. So it is important to grow both. So far the prosperity to grow both of them has been identical so it is a matter of waiting for contruction to complete.

Lunar Cave and Cloud Pavilion - I honestly have not seen what these can do yet but you have my word I will return here in the next week to at least update what Lunar Cave does and then eventually Cloud Pavilion. They are described in the construction page but I rather see them first hand before saying anything as it is better to give no information then wrong information.

Now for the most important part of this guild, managing your guild as a leader!

You can't manage a guild if your style pushes people away. People needs to WANT to be apart of your guild. Guilds have come and gone but the truly best guilds are the ones that members have faith and believe in their leaders! That is why as a leader you need to be strong for your members. I don't mean a great PVP person or all around strong fighter, I mean a person of strong character. If you have the personality that people tend to not respect, you can't manage a guild. You must be someone they can respect and be willing to talk to when they have problems or just in general. I have alternate characters in my guild that their main characters are in other guilds, some of them leaders of their guilds and a lot of them tell me this is the best guild they ever been in. It is because I have their respect and I got it by giving them respect first.

A guild leader is only a title, beyond that it has no true meaning. You give it meaning by how you act and how you are as a person. When people ask me what I like most about the game, I start rambling on about how I have the perfect guild and it is all because I have amazing people in it that make it great. The people in the guild are the heart and soul of a guild! Respecting them is the most important part of being a guild leader. Everything you do is really for them.

I have watched and heard of guilds fall apart because leaders though they were generals in a battle field, barking orders at their guild members. Others have come running to my guild because they didn't like how they were treated. My guild I have 3 rules and they have never changed since I create the guild.

Re: How to create and manage a Guild!

Rule #1 - Must be a good hearted person. I beleive chemistry between members is important and if everyone has a good heart, then life becomes very easy for you as a leader.

Rule #2 - Must be active. It isn't fair to your other guild members that you are inactive for a long period of time and they are working hard on leveling the guild while your taking up a spot of someone who could be assisting them. So if you are inactive, you get booted but once you become active again you can easily return to the guild.

Rule #3 - Everything is Willis fault (Willis is a life long friend I have and I blame him for everything)!

Some guilds require that you pay so much money to the guild each day, week or month and do a certain amount of Guild Quests(GQ) each day to help the guild level, but I dont believe in doing that. I believe as a leader is it YOUR responsibility to put the gold into the guild. And as for Guild Quests, you can't make people do them. They have to want to do them or want to level the guild. I have found that if you are willing to run younger players through guild quests, they will do them everyday anyways. Yes it means you have to run them extra but did you think being a guild leader was going to be easy? It does require you to LEAD and that may mean getting your hands dirty and running a few extra senarios a day!

My advice on recruitment, don't have a level cap. I see people in world chat all the time say, "Recruiting members, 25+ whisper me!" I have never had issues with leveling my guild and you do need certain people of a certain level to build up the tree. Like for level 4, you need 20 members who are level 25+. I have over 40 and the majority of my member I recruiting under 20. New people to a server tend to stick around longest while older members seem to like to guild jump if they already had issues staying with a guild. A guild should be a family of people who come together to have fun, and limiting who they can interact with will only hinder yourself as a leader and your guild. Usually the only issue I have is that the upper limit of how many members you can have in your guild is never enough, people tend to stay forever. If you find a new person and they try out your guild ... and you run a guild based on having fun and being good people ... why would they leave? Most new people will stay commited to their first guild unless they run into problems. If there are no problems you have a member for life! This is why you should NEVER limit yourself or your guild to 20+ or 25+. Yes you may have to boot some here and there because they become inactive but in the end you will have established a guild that is more of a family then a guild. In fact when I use to recruit via world chat I would say, "If you want a guild you can call home, whisper me!" Now I don't bother with world chat recruiting, we recruit too fast by word of mouth and the active people participating in many events like the Player Race that we get requests all the time!

So this is what I have to offer and one last statement before I click the submit button. The most important thing you can ever give your guild is love. You love your guild, your guild will love you! There is no better feeling then logging in everyday and seeing the people in your guild happy and loving your guild as much as you do! Also never forget that without your members, you don't have a guild so never stop respecting them and always be greatful for them, then you will never go wrong! I hope my experiences and happiness will inspire some of you, I couldn't be happier playing Talisman Online thanks to Guild Destiny!

Re: How to create and manage a Guild!

First of All, Thanks a lot for the efforts you have put in writing such a nice and detailed guide. I will also try to put in my inputs about some things that you have expressed in this guide.

Quote:

Rule #1 - Must be a good hearted person....
Rule #2 - Must be active....
Rule #3 - Everything is Willis fault (Willis is a life long friend I have and I blame him for everything)!

I Totally Agree with the rules :) And the last one is !!!

Quote:

Some guilds require that you pay so much money...certain amount of Guild Quests(GQ) each day to help the guild level,... I believe as a leader is it YOUR responsibility to put the gold into the guild. And as for Guild Quests, you can’t make people do them....I have found that if you are willing to run younger players through guild quests, they will do them everyday anyways.... It does require you to LEAD and that may mean getting your hands dirty and running a few extra senarios a day!

I don’t agree completely with you here. The thing about the leader having more responsibilities can’t be contested. The leader always has to go that extra mile in ensuring the benefit of the guild. But such a thing cannot be sustained in the long run. The responsibility of a leader is also to motivate the team enough to work for the guild’s cause. Being a leader gives you certain amount of benefits which you repay by doing a lot for the guild. However, being in the guild also helps the members by giving them GQs, friends and many other perks which they should also repay by helping the guild grow and standing up for the guild in times of crisis.

I agree with the idea of running younger players through GQs. They get experience and they take up the baton once they are higher levels and help other low levels instead. This is how a good guild should work. A good guild needs to be high on rankings (though it takes time) and that can only happen if most of the members run GQs everyday and are ready to pay some gold to the guild every week (unless the leader is very rich). I think the more the perks, the more you should pay. Paying 1 Gold per week will never be hard for anyone. So there should be a graded payment system:

Freshman : 25-50 silver / week
Member : 1+ gold / week
Officer : 1.50+ gold / week
Presy : 2+ gold / week

Even running them through EZ or PB  gives them more silver than this per day. So they should have no problems at all in helping their own guild prosper. After all, everyone in a guild will reap the benefits of a higher level guild with all build construction complete and more GQs. Individuals who are very low on level can be exempted from this and hence saved from going bankrupt

Quote:

My advice on recruitment, don’t have a level cap. I see people in world chat all the time say, "Recruiting members, 25+ whisper me!" I have never had issues with leveling my guild and you do need certain people of a certain level to build up the tree. New people to a server tend to stick around longest while older members seem to like to guild jump if they already  "If you want a guild you can call home, whisper me!"

I agree with you partially here. I really like your idea of recruiting people and allowing them to grow with the guild. This makes them stick around longer. I belong to the guild "ELEMENTS" in Flawless Jade in Treasures section. I entered my guild when I was level 20 along with my sister. Then my guild was ranked 20+. Now my Level 10 guild is ranked No. 1 and by a big margin. This was my first guild and I never ever had any reason to leave it. But things change a lot when your guild becomes level 10. Then you start participating in BP wars and you also need more high level people to help others. Then we cannot recruit very low levels since they take up space and ask for help more than they can help. We can maintain a healthy balance of low vs high levels so that there are enough people who can be helped grow and enough people to help them. This also will allow us to win wars and also stand on our own. Thus the recruitmanet criteria can change according to the current requirement. Also, My guild AND your guild believes in loving the members like a family. If anyone enters such a family, they feel too good to leave it anyway. So I am not afraid of people leaving our guild because we know that the people who leave are the ones who cant live in a family The others are the part of our family and they’ll never leave us.(I am the presbyter of the guild)

Quote:

The most important thing you can ever give your guild is love. You love your guild, your guild will love you! There is no better feeling then logging in everyday and seeing the people in your guild happy and loving your guild as much as you do! Also never forget that without your members, you don’t have a guild so never stop respecting them and always be greatful for them, then you will never go wrong!
